Safe transport and storage of dangerous goods carried in containers and stored in ports and terminals

The object of this research is the traffic volume of the container vessels directed to and from container terminals which carry hazardous materials of various kinds according to the IMDG Code. Designating appropriate space volume for storing the above mentioned containers.

On the basis of the data derived from the research it will be possible to implement the solutions enabling the avoidance of the situation where containers with hazardous cargo pose additional danger or risk during transportation and storage in the container terminal.

.

Polish rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Transportation or Maritime Office which concern the storage of hazardous materials within sea ports are not uniform. The amount of the stored containers and storage area vary from port to port and the cargo is secured against possible accidents in a better or worse way.

Safe transport and storage of dangerous goods carried in containers and stored in ports and terminals

International guidelines seem to be encouraging in application of some solutions within the container terminals. Recommendations of the international organizations dealing with hazardous cargo indicate the ways of securing the storage areas and define the acceptable quantities of hazardous materials to be stored in the port areas.

Using the above mentioned legal regulations and international recommendations it is possible to define basic requirements which modern container terminal should fulfil in order to provide the appropriate servicing of the containers with dangerous cargo.
