Monitoring Loading Simulator Laboratory
This laboratory contains four computer stations for students and instructor’s station.
The installed software allows the visualisation of the planning and work execution issues on the following types of vessels:
- container ship,
- ro-ro carrier,
- general cargo vessel,
- bulk cargo ship.
LCHS – Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator created by Transas is the key software.Installed model of a large crude oil carrier allows the students to:
- familiarize with the construction of a tanker vessel and its particular modules and systems,
- practise the procedures of safe execution of the operation connected with transshipments,
- practise complex loading and unloading,
- practise the correct emergency procedures.
Whole practice is monitored by the instructor and the function registering all and any operations performed by the student allow for subsequent analysis of the modus operandi enabling the student to draw the conclusions from the mistakes made.
Due to advanced visualisation of the software the students who have not yet had practice on the sea can easily familiarize themselves with the construction of transshipment systems. Utilization of the cross-sections of the particular devices illustrates the details of construction in a very good way, while animation of the process of the liquid and gas flow allows fast understanding of the processes taking place during transshipment.
Simulator is connected with load stability software. Loading plans prepared on the basis of the software can be realised in the subsequent simulation. During the whole process of transshipment students can watch the changes in hull stress, draught, trim, list and ship’s stability parameters on the other screen. The possibility of increasing the speed of the simulation allows tracking the whole loading/unloading process during one laboratory unit.
Exercises on the other models of ships are based on the load stability software. The students load and unload a given type of vessel using loading plans prepared with the aid of this software. Apart from correct distribution of the cargo, they also have to control stability and strength parameters. The progress of the work is recorded in special forms prepared by the staff of the faculty.
Apart from the issues connected with planning and control of the loading, the forms contain the elements of:
- stability and strength of the vessel,
- operation of the trading vessel (preparation of cargo documents),
- planning the ship’s route.
